Once he completed his mechanical engineering degree with a focus on thermal process engineering at Leibniz University of Hanover as well as his Doctorate in design engineering at Technical University of Munich, Udo Lindemann initially spent 15 years working in the industry. After holding various positions at Renk AG in Augsburg, he was then appointed Chair of the Executive Board at MAN Miller Druckmaschinen GmbH in Geisenheim. He was responsible for smaller sheet-fed printing machine products at its parent company, MAN Roland AG. Professor Lindemann succeeded Professor Ehrlenspiel as Chair of Product Development in 1995. The areas of focus for this professorship were expanded under his leadership, delving further into topics such as systems engineering and mastering complex structures, innovation and development processes, the strategic direction of product development, cost management, individualizing duplicate parts, sustainable customer interest and agile product development. In addition to the professional activities mentioned above, Prof. Lindemann was also involved with the Association of German Engineers (VDI), served as a lecturer, provided support for start-ups and served in various scientific associations. He remains active on several advisory boards, acatech and is part of the Bavarian Industry Association council.
