Prof. Peschel (*1950) conducts research in the field of haematology and tumor biology. By understanding the cell biological and molecular basics of tumor diseases, the basis for an individualized, targeted therapy for patients with leukaemia and cancer ist to be created. Acute and chronic leukaemias as well as tumor diseases of the lymphatic system (non-Hodgkin lymphomas) are the focus of fundamental and translational research. Prof. Peschel studied medicine at the University of Innsbruck, where he habilitated in 1989. From 1985-1987 he spent a research stay in the USA with William E.Paul, Laboratory of Immunology, at the National Institute of Health. 1990-1997 he worked as a senior physician (C3 professorship) at the University Hospital Mainz. In 1997 he was appointed to the newly founded Chair of Hematology and Internal Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine of the TUM.
